RIDE THE ROLLER COASTER

Childrens Poetry & Rhyming Stories by David Bray

Champ was walking home from Myn's place when he saw the poster
"New Amusement Park!" it beamed, "Come ride the roller coaster"
Champ's imagination let him preview all the rides
He saw himself come flying down the great, enormous slides

He ran on home and phoned his friends, they had to make a plan
"We have to ride that roller coaster anyway we can!
All we have to do is find the money for the tickets"
Then silence on the line, a ticking clock and distant crickets

"I've got it!" Darl said, "Each of us could do a little job,
We could mop the floors and maybe cook for Larry Lobb
We could mow the lawn and later put the rubbish out
We'll ride that roller coaster, I, for one, have got no doubt"

They all agreed and set to work, calling door to door
Captain Pete the pilot had them polishing his floor
Larry's dirty dishes, Nora's cello needed care
Mrs Chips got Darl and Myn to brush and style her hair

They worked all day when Champ said, "I've resorted now to wishin'"
"Well wish no more," said Darl, "We've raised enough for the admission!"
Mrs Chips agreed to take them, once the sky grew dark
To Flutterland's amazing, wonderful amusement park
