SNAKES AND LADDERS

Childrens Poetry & Rhyming Stories by David Bray

Mrs Chips invited everybody 'round to play
A game of snakes and ladders on a rainy Saturday
Sitting in a circle, there were ten around the board
"I'll go first," said Charlie Fripp, "Where're the dice?" he roared

"No you don't!" cried Mrs Chips, "It's Gracie Garner's turn
From youngest to the oldest, Charlie, won't you ever learn?"
So Gracie took the dice in hand and gave them forty shakes
"I'll go up all the ladders and avoid those nasty snakes!"

She threw a five and six and moved her piece eleven spaces
Then looked around the circle at the friendly smilimg faces
Myn asked Captain Pete, "Is that a python or an adder?"
As Gracie moved her piece right by the snake then up the ladder

"I'm not sure," said Captain Pete as BB rolled a ten
"Double five," said Mrs Chips, "You get to roll again"
So BB moved his piece and stopped, and rolled a second time
And landed on a ladder, "That's so cool, I get to climb!"

Myn went next, then Champ and Darl, Nora threw a five
"If only I could make it past that snake I will survive"
Larry rolled a seven, Captain Pete a double three
Charlie Fripp yelled, "It's my turn, now give the dice to me!"
