NOT ON YOUR NELLIE

Childrens Poetry & Rhyming Stories by David Bray

Darl moved close to BB looking deep in to his eyes
"Have you got a bag half-full of chicken mornay pies?
Perhaps the bag is empty and those pies are in your belly"
BB shook his head and laughed and said, "Not on your Nellie!"

Mrs Chips was walking by and heard all the commotion
Just as Myn asked BB, "Have you got a magic potion?"
BB couldn't help himself, he slapped his knee and giggled
And fell down on the floor and did the splits and shook and jiggled

Mrs Chips helped BB up and said, "Now listen mister
Tell us what you've got, I hope it's not some little blister!"
BB took a big deep breath and asked them all at last
"Do you all give up?" he smiled - "Yes, tell us, tell us fast!"

He held his arms in front of him, his hands were knotted fists
And said, "Now watch me carefully," and shook his little wrists
He slowly opened up his hands each finger one by one
Revealing lots of emptiness, just sunlight from the sun

Everybody sighed and said, "Oh BB you're so funny
If we'd paid admission, we'd've wasted all our money
Mrs Chips said, "Never mind, who's coming 'round for jelly?"
When BB asked, "Can I come too?" they said, "Not on your Nellie!"
