CAPTAIN PETE'S ISLAND IN THE SUN

Childrens Poetry & Rhyming Stories by David Bray

To the left there was an aeroplane so shiny, red and white
Champ could see a helicopter hovering to the right
Myn and Darl and BB sat so patiently to wait
Then Captain Pete the pilot smiled while walking through the gate

Mrs Chips was right behind him dressed up like a queen
Then Nora Nodd and Larry Lobb arrived upon the scene
Everyone had suitcases and smaller bags to carry
"Nora wants a window seat and so do I," said Larry

Captain Pete said "Follow me, like carriages on a train"
They hooked up in a conga-line and danced up to the plane
They climbed aboard and found their seats and locked their safety belts
"Please put the air-con on," Champ cried, "before my chocolate melts!"

Captain Pete said "Hold on tight," and started the propellers
"Prepare for an adventure all you funky girls and fellas"
And slowly then the plane began to roll on down the runway
And everybody knew that this was going to be a fun day

Nora Nodd was laughing, Mrs Chips had closed her eyes
The plane was getting faster, they could feel it start to rise
Up into the sky they flew through puffy clouds of white
Passing blimps and gliders, geese, balloons, eagles & kites
